Privacy policy

Last updated 7 August 2026

The short version. This website sets no cookies and runs no analytics, so browsing it leaves nothing behind but a server log line. If you email us we keep the email. We index public product catalogs to build evaluations, and those catalogs contain products, not people. We have never sold anyone's personal information and we do not plan to start.

The long version is below, because the short version is not a legal document.

1. Who we are

Juxtafold builds visual similarity product recommendations for online stores. In this policy "Juxtafold", "we" and "us" mean the business operating juxtafold.com, reachable at:

4202 Meridian St, Ste 105-594
Bellingham, WA 98226
United States
contact@juxtafold.com

Email is the only channel we run. There is no phone line and no chat widget, so nothing on this site is quietly recording a conversation.

2. What this policy covers

This policy covers juxtafold.com, any evaluation demo we send you, and email you exchange with us. It does not replace the agreement we sign with a merchant before running in production. Where a signed agreement says something different about how we handle that merchant's data, the signed agreement wins.

3. What we collect

From this website

This site is static HTML, CSS and images served from our host. It sets no cookies, loads no fonts or scripts from other companies, and has no analytics or advertising tags. There is no tracking pixel and no session identifier. We are not being noble about this, it is just what the site needs to work.

Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, which record your IP address, the page requested, a timestamp, the referring page, and your browser's user agent string. We use those logs to keep the site up and to spot abuse. We do not use them to build a profile of you or to identify individual visitors.

Because we run no cross-site tracking, we do not respond to Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signals. There is nothing for them to turn off.

When you email us

We keep the message, your email address, your name if you sign it, and anything else you choose to tell us, such as your company, your store URL, or a competing quote you want us to beat. We keep the thread so we can carry on the conversation and so we have a record of what we agreed.

From evaluation demos

Evaluation demos live at unguessable URLs and are set to noindex. Our host logs requests to them the same way it logs requests to this site, which means we can see that a demo link was opened and roughly how often. We use that to tell whether a link we sent was actually looked at.

4. Merchant catalog data

To build an evaluation for a store, we index its public product catalog: titles, prices, availability, product URLs and product photographs, taken from pages and feeds the store already publishes to the open web. We also record what the store's own recommendation carousel returns, so we have something to compare against.

Catalog data is information about products. It is not personal information about shoppers. Building an evaluation does not involve customer records, order history, email lists, or anything from behind a login, and we do not ask for any of it. That is the point of the product: it works without behavioral data, so there is no behavioral data to protect.

Product photographs stay the property of the store or the brand that owns them. We use them to show what a recommendation row would contain. On this site's own pages we host our copies; inside an evaluation that reproduces a store's product page, photographs load from the store's own public image servers, exactly as they do on the store's site.

If you run a store whose catalog we have indexed and you would rather we had not, email contact@juxtafold.com. We will delete the catalog data, delete the images, and take down any evaluation material built from it within five business days, and we will write back to confirm when it is done. You do not need to explain why and you do not need a lawyer to ask.

5. The production recommendation service

This section describes how the production service will handle data. As of the date above we have no merchant running in production, so nothing here is happening yet. We will update this policy when it is, rather than leaving you to guess which parts are real.

When Juxtafold serves recommendations on a merchant's storefront, the merchant decides what is collected and why. In the language of US privacy law the merchant is the business and we are its service provider. We handle shopper data only to deliver recommendations for that merchant, and we do not use it for our own purposes, sell it, or share it for advertising.

What the recommendation module needs is small: the product being viewed, a short-lived random identifier so a test can put the same visitor in the same group twice, and whether a recommendation was clicked. It does not need a name, an email address, a postal address, or payment details, and it is not built to receive them.

6. How we use information

We use what we collect to answer your email, prepare and send an evaluation, quote and invoice for work, keep our systems running and secure, and meet legal obligations such as tax records. We do not use it to build advertising profiles, and we do not enrich it with data bought from brokers.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, as those terms are defined under California law. We have not done so in the past twelve months.

7. Who we share it with

We use a small number of vendors to operate: a web host, an email provider, and payment or accounting services once there is an invoice to send. They get only what they need to do their job and are not allowed to use it for anything else. We will name the current vendors if you ask.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect our rights, and if a court order or subpoena covers your information we will try to tell you unless we are forbidden from doing so. If the business is ever sold or merged, information may transfer with it, and this policy travels with the information until it is replaced by one you are told about.

8. How long we keep it

Server logs are kept for up to 90 days. Email threads are kept for as long as the relationship is live and for up to three years afterward, because prospects come back. Contracts, invoices and tax records are kept for seven years, which is what our accountant tells us to do. Catalog data and evaluation builds are deleted when a prospect goes cold or on request, whichever comes first.

If you want us to delete an email thread sooner, ask and we will, except where we have to keep it for tax or legal reasons.

9. Your rights

Depending on where you live you may have the right to know what personal information we hold about you, get a copy of it, correct it, delete it, and not be discriminated against for asking. California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Washington and a growing list of other states grant some or all of these.

Most of those laws only bind companies above a size threshold, and we are well below every one of them, so they may not apply to us at all. We are not going to hide behind that. We honor these requests from anyone who makes one, wherever you live, and we would rather tell you that plainly than claim a compliance status we have not earned.

To make a request, email contact@juxtafold.com. We will reply within 45 days. We may need to ask a question or two to confirm you are who you say you are, and for a business contact that is usually as simple as replying from the address already in the thread. An authorized agent can act for you with written permission.

If we ever say no to a request, we will tell you why, and California residents can appeal by replying to that answer.

If you are a shopper on a merchant's store rather than a Juxtafold customer, the merchant holds the relationship and the data. Send your request to them. If they pass it to us, we will act on it.

10. Security

Data is encrypted in transit. Access is limited to the people who need it, which today is a very short list. Evaluation demos are gated behind unguessable URLs and are revoked when an evaluation ends. We are a small company and we are not going to pretend to hold certifications we do not have. No system is perfectly secure, and if we ever have a breach that affects you we will tell you promptly and directly.

11. Children

This is a business to business service. It is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you think a child has sent us something, email us and we will delete it.

12. Where data is processed

We are in Washington State and our vendors are in the United States, so that is where information is stored and processed. If you contact us from outside the US, your information is transferred to the US, where privacy law differs from your own. We currently sell to US merchants and we have not built the consent tooling that European operation would require, so if you need a GDPR data processing agreement today, we will tell you honestly that we are not ready rather than sign one we cannot honor.

13. Changes

When this policy changes we update the date at the top and post the new version here. If a change materially affects how we treat information we already hold about you, we will email you about it rather than rely on you noticing.

14. Contact

Questions, requests, complaints, or a note that we have indexed a catalog you would rather we had not, all go to the same place.
